AMD has launched a new Radeon RX 6600 XT mid-range GPU for gamers who want to achieve high performance and high refresh rate at 1080p. The company’s touted performance is 15% higher than that of rival Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060. For those who want to upgrade from GeForce GTX 1060, the performance is increased by 2.5 times. GeForce GTX 1060 is still the most widely used independent GPU based on the latest hardware.
From Steam. polling. Graphics cards from manufacturers such as Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, Sapphire, XFX, ASRock, Biostar, PowerColor, etc. will be available globally from August 11. Gaming desktops pre-installed with this GPU will also go on sale in various markets in August. India pricing details will be announced by individual manufacturers. The suggested retail price of the new Radeon RX 6600 XT is US$379 (approximately Rs 28,275 before taxes in India).
Given the global shortage of GPUs and the resulting price spikes, it is not clear whether these cards will be truly available at this price point. AMD stated that the Radeon RX 6600 XT is not suitable for cryptocurrency mining, but did not implement specific hardware adjustments to prevent this. Radeon RX 6600 XT GPU joins the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, RX 6800, and RX 6700 XT in AMD’s current generation product lineup, all of which use the same RDNA 2 graphics architecture.
According to AMD, two-thirds of gaming monitors shipped in 2020 will have a resolution of 1920 x 1080, but there is a great demand for upgrades to high refresh rate monitors. In terms of specifications, this GPU has 2,048 “stream processors” divided into 32 computing units and 32 beam accelerators. The stock frequency ranges from 2359MHz to 2589MHz (boost).
Typical power consumption is 160W, AMD recommends a minimum power consumption of 500W. Graphics card manufacturers will be able to customize their cooling solutions and provide overclocked graphics cards. However, all Radeon RX 6600 XT models will be equipped with 8GB GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit bus with a memory bandwidth of up to 256GBps.
Games such as Battlefield V, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Hitman 3, and Resident Evil: Village claim 15% better performance than the GeForce RTX 3060. AMD says it uses the highest possible settings and the most advantageous API to run these games at 1080p. The resizable bar was enabled on both test systems (AMD has implemented it as smart access memory).
E-sports gamers should also expect high frame rates: 553 fps for Valorant, 441 fps for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Siege, and 425 fps for CS: GO. AMD also claims that compared with the previous generation Radeon RX 5600 XT, the performance in games such as Doom Eternal, Assassin’s Creed: Hall of Valor, Borderlands 3 and Forza Horizon 4 Increased by 1.4 to 1.7 times.
Like other products in the Radeon RX 6000 series, Radeon RX 6600 XT supports ray tracing. Software features include AMD’s smart memory access, as well as FidelityFX super-resolution upgrades, Radeon Boost and Radeon Anti-Lag.
