Telegram update brings payments 2.0, scheduled voice chat, new web version

This is a free and privacy-conscious platform: Telegram does not charge any commission and does not store any payment information.

Credit card information is sent directly to the payment provider, and shipping information is shared with merchants so they can ship products to you. We have created a demo channel that provides the most unusual imaginary goods and services you can buy without money, so you can test how it works without spending a penny.

Any merchant can start using the payments API without requiring additional approval from Telegram. Developers interested in integrating payments can find all the details in the “Payment Manual”.

Scheduled Voice Chats

Voice chat allows users to choose to go out with a few friends or listen to large-scale broadcasts with millions of listeners. Group and channel administrators can now schedule voice conversations for specific dates and times without having to create one right away.

This gives community members time to let their friends know and pop the popcorn, and users will see a colorful countdown at the top of the chat. Those who are busy watching the countdown can choose to receive a notification when the voice chat begins.

Administrators can schedule voice conversations from their “groups” or “channels” profile page. On the Android device, tap ⋮> Start voice chat> Schedule voice chat. On iOS, click the “Voice Chat” button and select “Schedule a Voice Chat”. Don’t worry, the chat won’t start automatically when the countdown reaches zero, only when the admin hits the “Start Now” button.

Mini Profiles for Voice Chats

Now you can expand your profile picture and resume to better understand who you are chatting with, without leaving the voice chat window.

You can also change your profile picture and edit your resume without leaving the chat room, for example, switch from Shirley to Grognak and meet like a barbarian in Dungeons and Dragons.

New Web Versions

The first web version of Telegram was launched in 2014. Since our internal competition pet demon has been whispering, “Why is there one web version and there are two?” Today, we will add two new fully functional Telegram web apps, both of which support animated stickers, dark mode, chat folders, etc.

With the new web version, you can instantly access the chat on any device from your desktop or mobile device. These apps are extremely efficient, they only need 400 KB to download (like two photos of a medium-sized cat) and they don’t need to be installed. If you encounter a problem with these two new apps, please let us know using our suggested platform.

Direct Download for Android

Although iOS users can already download this update from the App Store, Google told us that “due to the adjustment of working hours, they currently have a longer review time than usual.” Fortunately, you don’t have to wait for the review to complete.

Anyone can download Telegram for Android directly from telegram.org. Applications installed from the website will automatically update to the latest version. This way, you can get the new version for a few days or weeks faster, because you don’t have to wait for the store to review the update.

Telegram supports playable internal versions, so you can always be sure that the apps you have on your device are built with the exact same open-source code that is published on GitHub.

Pinch to zoom

Photos and videos can now be expanded directly from the chat – simply pinch to zoom in right away, without tapping to open the media viewer.

Improved Video Player

When watching a video from the media player on iOS, press and hold the + or -15s button to fast forward and rewind.

On Android, press and hold the right or left side of the screen to perform the same action, then double-tap to jump in any direction for 10 seconds.

Tips and New Android Animations

The Android app gets smoother and more dynamic with each update – check out the new animations when opening the side menu or swiping back to the chat list from a chat.
