While for Harley it brings a scale of operations and economy that comes with the backing of the World’s largest two-wheeler company, not to mention Hero’s ground intelligence of the Indian market which will help them in their bid to develop new products.
Earlier this year Harley Davidson company formally announced that they will be pulling out of India. This was followed by an announcement that Hero MotoCorp would be partnering with the American heritage brand to set up their sales and manufacturing in India. This uncertainty then led to panic amongst Harley’s existing dealer network who claimed that they were never officially told that the brand would be shutting Indian operations, and were presented no road-map for the future, leaving a few of them potentially bankrupt. Although now there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel for Harley owners and dealers in India, with a new-letter surfacing that was sent to all existing Harley-Davidson customers from Sanjeev Rajasekharan, Managing Director for Harley’s Asia, emerging market and India division.
The statement makes it clear that H-D India will continue its India operation as per plan. The good news is that Harley is aiming to resume HOG (Harley Owners Group) activities as well. Plus, the company has promised to keep the riders informed of updates as and when available. Plus the company also says that it will continue to launch new motorcycles in India under its agreement with Hero MotoCorp
The current Harley-Davidson dealers will continue operations until December 31, 2020. Details on the updated dealer network and service points that will be operational starting January 1, 2021, will be communicated before the end of December 2020.
